Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels, Before and After.
What are Chemical peels/ Skin peels?

Chemical peels are basically an accelerated form of exfoliation induced by the use of chemical products. There are different types of chemical peels which aim to remove pigmentation, reduce lines and wrinkles and treat acne and scarring.

During a free consultation our experienced staff will advise you on what types of peel are most suitable to address your condition and how many peels you would require.

How do Chemical peels/ Skin peels work?

Chemical peeling can be used to treat a particular area (such as lines around the eyes or mouth), or all over the face, arms, hands and neck.

First your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and then the chemical solution will be carefully applied. People often report a mild stinging when applying the product. After a few minutes the product will be removed.

The new regenerated skin is more uniform in colour, smoother and less wrinkled giving a more youthful look overall and with a reduction in the appearance of any superficial scars. The habitual use of sunscreen will prevent further sun damage and maintain the improved skin quality.

Types of Chemical peels/ Skin peels

There are different types of peels, differing in their intensities.

Superficial Peels
These are the lighter milder peels as well as the most commonly used. They remove the outer layer of cells, lightly exfoliating the skin to give you a healthy glow. These peels usually use combinations of alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) and betahydroxy acids (BHAs) e.g. glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and kojic acid.

These peels may be used to treat fine lines, sun damage, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and moderate acne. Treatment takes only a few minutes, and your skin may feel pink and tight for a couple of hours after the treatment. Superficial peels result in mild facial redness and occasional swelling but this usually resolves within 48 hours.

Medium Peels
Medium depth peel, targeting wrinkles and blemishes.
This type of peel penetrates further into the skin to reduce wrinkles and mild acne scars and to even out skin colour and tone.

These peels usually contain trichloroacetic acid (TCA) sometimes in combination with glycolic acid. The peel remains on your face for a few minutes before being neutralised. A burning or stinging sensation may be felt during the application of the peel and the skin may go brown or red in the days after the peel.

The TCA Skin Peel is designed to be used to fight the most noticeable signs of photo ageing, such as little lines and dry, uneven skin colour tone. The TCA Skin Peel can also be used to treat acne and acne scarring, and areas on the hands, forearms and neck.

What do you need to do before a peel?

You may be placed on a home care program for at least 2-3 weeks prior to your first peel. This is important as your skin must be prepared for the peel. The home care program will consist of a selection of products which will introduce your skin to the treatment. This plays an important part of the overall peel procedure as the continuous home care program is important in the success of your peels.

A factor 30-50 sun block is always included in the home care program.

The treatment

During the treatment you may experience a mild stinging sensation which will disappear quickly.

Some pinkness may occur depending on the sensitivity of the skin. In some instances flaking of the skin after your peel is normal, this should subside during the first few days post peel.

Testimonials

Shazad Malik (Birmingham)
I suffered with Acne and Acne scarring and it was beginning to get me down. I had low confidence and was always trying to cover my face. After having a course of chemical peels I feel and look great. The scarring has improved loads and the peeling wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and only lasted a couple of days. Now my skin is much brighter and clearer.

Lisa Sanderson (Coventry)
This treatment is brilliant. My scarring has been reduced and the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes and lips are vanishing with each treatment. My skin looks and feels fresh and smooth and I haven’t yet finished the course. The products I am using along with the treatment are great, I will be recommending this treatment to friends and family.
